The kitchen in the signature penthouse unit of the award-winning Avant Condominium Project in downtown Buffalo. The stunning floor-to-ceiling, curtain-wall glass views required a space that would compliment rather than compete with the views while providing an active working space for owners who enjoy extensive entertaining.
Auburn Watson provided kitchen design and craft services to the majority of Avant homes, creating unique spaces reflecting each owner. The size and scope of a kitchen that offered lake, river, Canada and city hall views from the breakfast nook created an exceptional opportunity. Wayne Watson met repeatedly with the homeowners to learn about their entertainment style and how they wanted the kitchen to work for them. He specifically identified the functional need for three dishwashers (two drawer models for glassware), a separate prep sink, ovens and a warming drawer, a large capacity refrigerator and a small household office area - all while keeping the look clean and uncluttered. Considering the mechanical limitations necessary in any multi-unit dwelling - particularly one which had been repurposed from a federal office building - a space plan was created for review. Once it was honed to the owners’ absolute specification, Wayne Watson worked with the owner's decorator, Michael Donnelly on the fixtures, finishes, color and lighting.
The final result is a highly functional, yet absolutely beautiful space that pays silent tribute to its' exceptional surroundings.
